Chair of the Trustees of the Stephen Hawking Foundation, Lucy Hawking, said: “We are thrilled by this collaboration with Bremont and are grateful for their support for our work funding research into physics, Motor Neurone Disease and public engagement with science.

Bremont Co-Founder, Nick English, said: “Professor Stephen Hawking was arguably one of the most pre-eminent scientists of the last hundred years. We wanted to celebrate this incredible man’s life and his fascinating relationship with time.

The stunning timepiece incorporates unique details related to Professor Hawking’s life, including fragments of material taken from one of his physics papers and slivers of wood from an antique desk which he inherited from his grandmother, a pioneering educator.

Professor Hawking set up The Stephen Hawking Foundation in 2015 in order to give support to academic research into the sciences on which he worked throughout his long career, to promote and support medical research into the devastating condition of MND and to further public engagement with science, something he passionately believed was crucial for the future of the world. The partnership with Bremont will contribute to the Foundation’s ongoing work.

2020 marks the 10th year that Bremont has designed an iconic limited edition, honouring and preserving a piece of history and heritage within one of its mechanical timepieces. This year the brand is very proud to have worked closely with the Hawking family to create something completely unique and very special to commemorate the life of the remarkable Professor Stephen Hawking.
